My Favourite Running Shoe

What you wear on your feet is the most important decision you will make when you decide you want to become a runner. Do not buy a shoe that is on sale unless you know that you are buying something suited for you. Running injuries are not very fun at all and can even make you immobile if you do not look after yourself.

Now that I scared off all the newbies I guess I’ll share what shoe has been working best for me over the last few years.

Mizuno Wave Rider 19

This is an older neutral shoe but I have owned this exact shoe 2 years ago and I am fortunate to be running in this shoe again this year. Pink and Purple are my favourite colours and if I could find this exact shoe again in my size I would purchase a 3rd time. (A little bit obsessed.)

PROS
Lightweight and Attractive. Not bulky. Comfortable fit around the heel and ankle. The mesh is perfect for keeping your feet cool. Great for a neutral runner.

CONS
The mesh frayed and developed holes within 6-8 months (based on 2 pairs).
*Note: I averaged 40-50 miles per month in those shoes so this isn’t that big of a con when you look at it from that perspective.

FEATURES

Midsole
-U4ic is a lightweight midsole that provides optimal shock absorption, durability and a resilient ride.
-Extended Wave Plate in the midfoot is an extension of the Mizuno Wave for increased torsional rigidity between the heel and forefoot.
-Double Fan Wave provides a stable ride to reduce pronation without increased stiffness.
-Mizuno Intercool ventilation system in the midsole inhibits humidity buildup to keep feet cool and dry.

Upper
-AIRmesh covers the entire upper and provides breathability to keep the foot cool.
-Stitched Overlays on the medial and lateral sides help secure the foot in place.
-OrthoLite Sockliner is anti-microbial and moisture wicking for a healthy foot environment.
-Dynamotion Fit creates optimal fit with stretch material in the forefoot and a collar construction that prevents the heel collar from buckling under load.
-U4icX Strobel Lasting board for a comfortable and cushioned underfoot feel.

Outsole
-X10 located in the heel is made of durable carbon rubber for enhanced traction.
-Blown rubber in the forefoot increases cushioning and responsiveness.
-Flex Controllers placed in high flex areas on the outsole act as miniature wave plates for increased flexibility and reduced weight.

I believe my next purchase will be the Wave Rider 21. I am curious to see how the mesh holds up as it is apparently a new design. Check them out for yourself.

The Mizuno Wave Rider 21 ladies’ running shoes are innovatively designed with anatomical precision to ensure incredible fit and sufficient cushioning with neutral runners. The pair weighs low 245g (8.6oz) ensuring fantastic feel, and utilises the Mizuno Wave® technology in the midsole for a more stability, responsiveness, and impact attenuation on every step.
